Most of the time I love midwifery. But every once in a while (or more often than that, as it seems lately), something terrible and sucky happens, and then I wonder if it's worth it. It's not always just normal pregnancies, beautiful births and precious healthy babies. The bad parts of this work can be really bad. Unfortunately, death is part of birth. Part of life. Even brand new life. And that sucks.
